Um.. consists of two Icon Collective graduates, Dylan Gold and Ben Bruce, who met while at school and started making music together in September of 2014. Making music comes easy to the two who share a belief that there is a creative void in the electronic music space their music can fill. “We don’t want to follow an abused and over saturated path devoid of any creativity or evolution. We have found a direction that is new, fun and creatively unique, and have a strong collaborative workflow that comes naturally to us which we have found to be extremely rare” says Dylan, 23, continuing, “after moving in together 4 months ago, we have established a sound and brand that we believe is wholly representative of us as people and that can be understood and appreciated by anyone”. “This project has come together completely organically and we believe it is creatively innovative. Throughout this span we have finished a 5 song EP that represents our sound and energy across 5 different genres of music” adds Ben, 22. Um..’s first introduction to the public came in December of 2014 with their remix offering of much-hyped producer Awe’s “Griffin” being included in LA powerhouse collective Team Supreme’s Vol. 127 cypher. The guys were in great company grouped with Dubstep legend Plastician, King Henry, Terrorhythm, DJ Pound, Murphy, Lord Olaf, Rainoh Cee Ross, Yung Orca, Lost Midas, NuTrik Ruff Draft, and Nalepa. “Our music has a playful feeling, while maintaining top level quality production, that’s refreshing in a time where producers take their music too seriously and sacrifice creativity for commercial sounding tracks. We are not interested in following any other artist’s path. We believe in creation without creative boundaries and we demonstrate that through our music. Without saying anything more, I think the music speaks for itself”, says Dylan. The duo recently played their first live show on New Year’s Eve at Midnight of Eden Festival in Southwen California, and are excited to expand their live show across the US and beyond in 2015.

The mesmerizing result is a harmonic convergence. Combine legendary beat-makers like J Dilla and Flying Lotus with indie rock and electronic icons like Deerhunter and Washed Out, then add Radiohead’s dreamy ambience and you begin to approach the sound of Jaw Gems. Electronic musician, Daedelus, says “Jaw Gems have done the magic trick of delivering a thoroughly listenable instrumental album that you can also sing along to.” “Dilla is the common thread for how we all met and began playing together,” says keyboardist Hassan Muhammad. “Not many people in Portland knew about him seven years ago, so through various friends we were all pointed out to each other and we were blessed with the opportunity to hold a weekly residency at a bar, playing all the stuff we liked and getting increasingly weird.” Since their start in 2009, the band has been exploring sonic and rhythmic ideas that emphasize interlaced melodies and heavy grooves. First outfitted solely with dueling vintage synthesizers, a drummer, and an electric bassist, Jaw Gems have now incorporated a Roland sp404 and the Juno 106 analog synth, going on to employ the beat- repeating, sample-warping technologies of the present to help create their wall of sound. Armed with new gear, Jaw Gems were able to evolve their beats, trigger intricate samples, and alter sounds in an increasingly advanced way. “You can do so much with these devices, and we all have our own ways of using them,” says bassist Andrew Scherzer. “In August of 2016, Jaw Gems delivered their second album, HEATWEAVER, via STS9’s 1320 Records. The 14-tracks create a thickly layered transcendental auditory world – a meticulously crafted collection grounded in a modern electronic aesthetic. HEATWEAVER melds neck-breaking, hip-hop synthesizers and nostalgic atmospheres, while simultaneously touching on elements of psychedelic funk, neo-soul, and punk rock.” Jaw Gems likes to keep their recording process relaxed to allow for creative diversity. Setting up shop in a makeshift home studio, the band hunkers down and lets their songs come to life. Put four beatmakers in a room together for a week, and the outpouring of ideas could be endless. “As we develop as individual musicians each of our sounds morph and evolve in different ways, so when we come together to record we all bring something new to build upon,” says drummer DJ Moore. “Our creative process is never the same,” says keyboardist and sampler Tyler Quist. “On HEATWEAVER, we let some of our beats stay in a more bedroom beat format, and others we revamped to sound a lot more live.” In this case, Jaw Gems was left with a solid compilation attesting to their evolution as tenacious genre-bending producers. Now, after catching the attention of acclaimed Alpha Pup Records, Jaw Gems will re-release HEATWEAVER on the label this September, with additional remixes of every track. This re-release will feature flips from T3 (Slum Village), Daedelus, Brady Watt (Talib Kweli/DJ Premier), THE GRID (Jon Cleary Band), Break Science, Russ Liquid Test, and more. Expect Jaw Gems’ next full-length album on Alpha Pup Records in the coming months, as well. Adam’s career has crossed genres, focusing on hip-hop, funk and jazz, playing the role of both drummer and producer. The son of two professional funk drummers and Berklee grads, Adam first picked up his sticks at the age of two. His first gig was at a school assembly for his kindergarten class. Adam was inspired by hip-hop at an early age, listening closely to Public Enemy and Eric B and Rakim. Adam began his production career by making loops on a tape deck in his bedroom and has gone on to produce tracks for some of today’s top artists including Ledisi, Matisyahu, 50-Cent, Redman, Talib Kweli, KRS-One and MF Doom. Adam has done major session work on drums for artists including Justin Timberlake, Daniel Bedingfield, Anthony Hamilton, DJ Quik and Wycleff, Black Rob and Afu-Ru and the Fugees record, sure to be one of the year’s biggest records. Recently Adam has made appearances touring with Pretty Lights, The Game (The Tonight Show), Slick Rick, Lauryn Hill, Pras of the Fugees, GZA of Wu-Tang Clan, Dead Prez, the Ying Yang Twins, John Medeski, Meshell Ndegeocello and his own Fyre Dept as well as being a regular part of Wycleff Jean and Eve’s band. In his third year at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, he joined the world renowned Average White Band, with whom he performed for the two following years. Adam was featured on the band’s DVD, Live in LA, recorded at a sold out show at the House of Blues, and showed the band was at it’s best. While touring with AWB, Adam performed alongside many of his heroes including Earth, Wind and Fire, Tower of Power and Chaka Kahn. Adam is a founding member of Lettuce, who has been recording and touring for 15 years. Lettuce features such noted musicians as Eric Krasno, Ryan Zoidis, Sam Kininger and Neal Evans of Soulive, Erick Coomes, Adam Smirnoff (Robert Randolph) and Rashawn Ross (Dave Mathews Band). Lettuce is a funk powerhouse with a cult following from NYC to Tokyo. Lettuce’s third studio record, RAGE! was released in April 2008 to rave reviews and sold out shows. Adam has branched out from hip-hop and funk, recording and touring with jazz legend John Scofield. Adam has recorded on two of John’s latest records (both released on legendary label Verve Records), Up All Night, for which he also shares composers credit on many of the tracks, and the Grammy nominated Uberjam. Recently, Adam’s focus has been on Break Science, his electro duo with collaborator Borahm Lee. Break Science club music in the vain of a “Live Mix Tape”, blending live trip-hop, broken-beat, dub, drum & bass and of course, hip-hop.

Mikey Thunder likes to party. But more than that, Mikey Thunder just so happens to be the party. Thunder spins a genre-blending, bass-driven partyrock, fusing banging electronic beats with funk, hip-hop, soul, jazz, blues, swing, reggae and anything else the party may call for on the fly. With 19 years in the game, he’s mastered the art of improvisation with an uncanny ability to work with and rework the vibe of the party with precision. If you’re a true connoisseur of the Colorado music scene, you’ve seen Mikey share the stage with any number of your favorite artists- no matter the genre. It all began for Mikey at the age of 15 when he discovered DJing in Springfield , Mass. Thru friends older brother’s record collections and the Hiphop scene in the city. From there he moved up to Burlington Vt. and immersed himself in the diverse musical culture. In the fall of 1999, he relocated to the mountains of Jackson Hole where he was soon kidnapped by Michael Franti and Spearhead for the Stay Human Tour. After opening for Spearhead in Jackson Hole, Thunder was handpicked by Michael Franti to open the rest of the tour, where he mixed beats into their sets, during set break, and scratched with their beatboxer, Radioactive. After the Spearhead tour Mikey relocated to Boulder and continued to pursue his musical career. At that time Thunder also was an Atari playing stuntman/ DJ in the band Sonar. The band shared the stage with the Wailers at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, the String Cheese Incident, and played Hightimes Magazine’s SXSW party, and the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam. In the fall of 2009 Mikey joined the Pretty Lights crew, opened for over 30 shows on their tours and performed cuts on the Making Up a Changing Mind EP, released in 2010. He also has played the sold out Red Rocks Amphitheater runs with PL in 2012/13/14. Since that time, he has made his presence known in every single facet of the Colorado music industry. Over the years he has shared the stage with an extremely diverse range of musicians, including (but certainly not limited to): Bassnectar, The Glitch Mob, The Disco Biscuits, Boombox, Soul Live, Lettuce, The Motet, Michal Menert, Nightmares on Wax, Mr. Scruff, DJ Krush, Bonobo, Z Trip, DJ Qbert, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Jurassic 5, Slick Rick, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface killa, Red Man, Juicy J, and Big Boi of Outkast. Additionally, he has been prominently featured on such festivals as Shambhala, Sonic Bloom, Snowball, Global Dance Festival, and many others. Mikey Thunder’s true talent lies in his versatility. Every Thunder performance presents something familiar in an entirely unfamiliar way, as well as something unfamiliar presented in a way that is immediately recognizable as Thunder.
